Plant disaster preventionSystem Design

overview

Our company is the only consulting firm in Japan specializing in disaster prevention for plants handling hazardous materials.
Originally a design company, we have been involved in the basic system design of fire prevention and extinguishing equipment (fire extinguishing equipment, fire/gas alarm equipment) for major contractors both domestically and internationally, including petroleum/chemical plants and LNG/LPG plants, for over 20 years.
Thanks to our many years of experience, we possess deep insights and design tools.

Based on customer specifications, applicable laws and standards, our company conducts a comprehensive disaster risk analysis of the entire plant from an engineering perspective. We then create specifications that serve as the design standard for fire prevention and extinguishing systems, thereby minimizing rework and supporting the smooth progress of projects from the basic design stage onward.

In addition to designing fire prevention and extinguishing systems, we also design comprehensive safety and security equipment for the entire plant, taking into account layout plans and fire compartments, including equipment/building distances, fire-resistant structures, fire resistance times, explosion-proof structures, and coordination between air conditioning and smoke exhaust systems with detectors.

Risk analysis

When formulating the basic principles of disaster prevention for oil refineries and chemical plants, it is important to first conduct a risk analysis of the entire plant, identify hazardous areas, and consider countermeasures for those areas.
Based on process flows and system diagrams, our company identifies areas with a high risk of hazardous material leakage/gas diffusion, as well as fire and explosion. These findings are then incorporated into design standards documents as countermeasures and specific design criteria for fire suppression and fire/gas detection equipment.

For details on risk analysis, please refer to "Plant Disaster Risk Assessment," and for information on the programs used, please refer to "Plant Disaster Prevention Simulation."

Design documents to be created

01

Basic design policy

  • Review of domestic laws and regulations, and requirements of international standards (NFPA, BS, etc.)
  • Examination of fire extinguishing equipment and fire/gas alarm systems appropriate for each protected object.
  • Creation of basic design standards for fire prevention and extinguishing equipment
  • Calculation of the amount of water required for each fire prevention and extinguishing system.
02

Layout plan

  • Creation of a layout standard diagram for fire extinguishing equipment
  • Firefighting water main pipeline network (determined by pressure loss calculations from the pump to each supply point)
  • Creating layout diagrams for fire/heat/smoke detectors and gas detectors.
  • Creating nozzle layout diagrams for watering and sprinkler systems (The spray nozzle placement can be freely adjusted using water/foam spray simulation software, allowing for optimal placement planning by changing factors such as spray angle and installation height).
03

P&ID and Header Diagram

  • Creating a P&ID for a fire pump
  • Creating a header diagram for the main water supply network for firefighting.
  • Creating P&IDs for fire extinguishing equipment
  • Creating a complete system diagram for fire and gas alarm systems.
  • Creation of logic circuit diagrams and cause-and-effect tables for fire and gas alarm systems.
04

Specifications and datasheets

  • Creating data sheets for fire prevention and extinguishing equipment.
