Using a hoseEmergency water supply during disasters
system

overview

In recent years, severe disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes have occurred frequently, causing widespread damage. Key facilities in the water supply system, such as water treatment plants and drainage reservoirs, have been damaged, and the recovery period has been prolonged due to collapses and liquefaction of the ground and surrounding roads.
In the event of a water outage, which can significantly impact the lives of many people, we propose a new method for rapid restoration using Super Aqua Duct Hose.

Super AquaDuct Hose has a proven track record, having restored water supply in less than three hours during the 1989 California earthquake. The material of this product is considered equivalent to that of PET bottles, making it suitable for transporting drinking water. It has also been successfully used in food processing plants and other facilities.
During an earthquake, water can be drawn from undamaged sections of the piping, bypassing damaged areas to allow the piping network to remain usable, and providing temporary connections to evacuation centers and individual homes, enabling rapid restoration.

By connecting hoses up to 200m in length, and starting the connection from just before the damaged section, long-distance installation is possible. Using a manifold (branching fitting), the water supply can be branched to provide water to public taps in various locations throughout the area.

Water outage due to damaged water pipesIn contrast, the emergency bypass line

To bypass the damaged section, hoses are used to bypass buried fire hydrants on undamaged pipes.
If damage to water pipes running along bridge girders can be anticipated, such as damage caused by flooding, installing flanges with valves that can accommodate large-diameter hoses allows for early restoration.

We were hit by a water outage.Water supply to large-scale evacuation centers

In large-scale evacuation centers experiencing water outages due to damaged surrounding water pipes, water will be supplied from buried fire hydrants located on undamaged pipes, and temporary faucets will be installed. Furthermore, depending on the application, water collection pipes and branch pipes can be used to simultaneously supply water to multiple locations as needed.

By supplying water to the water tank of a building experiencing a water outage from a buried fire hydrant located on the normal piping system, the building's water supply can be restored.

Aqueduct Bridge - along the bridgeWhen water pipes are restored

In the event of damage to water pipes running along bridge girders or to aqueduct bridges, flanges with valves are installed at both ends of the bridge to allow connection of large hoses, and the hoses are then connected.
By pre-installing flanges that can accommodate large-diameter hoses, it becomes possible to restore power more quickly in the event of a disaster.

We can also transport goods by helicopter to areas where vehicle transport is difficult.
ホースリーラーでの展開
It can also be deployed using a hose reel, allowing you to store the hose by winding it flat onto the reel.
ホースブリッジの設置
By installing a hose bridge, vehicles can still pass even when laying hoses that cross roads.
ホースコンテナ
By folding the hose and placing it in a storage box, and then storing that box in an earthquake-resistant container, you can keep it compact and safe.

Examples of use overseas

Australian Piping Replacement Project(For supplying drinking water during water pipe replacement work)

In a piping replacement project in Australia, 300mm Super AquaDuct hoses were used for the modification of the main piping. For this project, we supplied the hose deployment/retrieval system and over 1,600m of 300mm Super AquaDuct hoses.

Yorkshire Water Authority, UK: Patley Bridge Main Pipe Renovation Project(For supplying drinking water during water pipe replacement work)

We delivered 1,800 meters of 250mm Super Aqua Duct hose to the Yorkshire Water Authority for the modification of 48km of 450mm main water lines. A towable hose deployment/retrieval reel was used for this project, enabling smooth laying in the hilly terrain with its uneven surface.

East Bay Electric Company, a public utility in San Francisco, USA.(For supplying drinking water during earthquakes and emergencies)

We delivered over 1,500 meters of 300mm Super AquaDuct hose to San Francisco, California, USA. This hose was used repeatedly as a bypass for water supply during the repair of the main water pipes after the earthquake. By adopting a water supply method using Super AquaDuct hose, the 300mm hose could be laid in just a few hours, whereas laying a regular steel pipe would have taken several days, contributing to the rapid restoration of the water lifeline.

AmericaLocal governments in the eastern region(For emergency drinking water supply during earthquakes)

In this project, we supplied over 4,800 meters of 300mm Super Aqua Duct hose (with Victaulic couplings) for emergency drinking water supply during earthquakes. In addition, we supplied deployment/retrieval units. The Super Aqua Duct hose has received certification under Standard 61 (drinking water supply standards) of the U.S. Public Health Foundation. The Super Aqua Duct hose is certified to be usable continuously even under the influence of saltwater. Furthermore, it can supply drinking water that has been treated with chlorine.

Deployment/Recovery System

We have developed eight innovative ISO container-type units as a deployment/retrieval system. Each ISO container has three compartments, and each compartment is designed to accommodate three specially designed hose storage boxes. The storage boxes can hold up to 200m of Super Aqua Duct hose.
The ISO containers are designed to be earthquake-resistant in accordance with California's UBC (Universal Building Code) standards, ensuring that the storage boxes are securely fixed and immobile. The boxes are also designed to be accessible by forklift. In addition, they are equipped with rollers for deployment to reduce the number of personnel required during deployment. This design allows for the handling of a total of 4,800 meters of 300mm Super Aqua Duct hose using eight units.

manifold

For this project, we supplied a 300mm manifold equipped with two 150mm branch pipes. Each branch pipe has a gate valve, and 125mm Stolz coupling hoses can be connected to it.
